A&S Compassion Care (ASCC) provides Residential Services that assist individuals with building the skills necessary to maximize their independence in community life while in a group home setting. It allows the individual to live in a community setting, instead of facilities such as nursing homes or Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF/IID). Examples of Intermediate Care Facilities include such places as Holly and Potomac Centers.

  • ASCC provides Supported Living, Shared Living, Community Living-Group Home, and Community Living-Enhanced Supports.
    • Supported Living – This service supports the individual to use or develop new independent living skills in their own home. It includes help finding an apartment or
    • Shared Living – This service supports the individual to build and keep skills needed for everyday life, including spending time with others. The service supports the individual to share a home and life experiences with another person, a couple or a family in the community that they choose. The service is based on trust and commitment that ASCC and the person, couple or family have with each other. It includes three levels of support: assistance, support, and guidance with things such as the individual taking care of themselves and staying healthy, making decisions, taking care of their home, and managing money, etc.
    • Community LivingGroup Home – This service supports the individual with building and keeping the skills they need for everyday life, including spending time with others. This service supports the person in a home rented or owned by the service provider.
    • Community Living-Enhanced Supports – This service supports the individual with developing and keeping the skills needed for: everyday life, spending time with others and keeping the individual and others safe. It does this by providing additional behavioral supports, observation and supervision in a home rented or owned by the service provider. 
  • Individuals identify the living situation that is best suited for their needs, preferences, and goals.
  • Qualified staff assists individuals with coordination, support or supervision, and training as indicated in the Person-Centered Plan (PCP).
  • We promote self-care, effective communication, problem-solving, safety practices, and  household chores in a safe and effective manner as reflected in the individuals Person-Centered Plan (PCP).
  • Transportation services are provided to improve the individual’s ability to access community activities within their community.
  • In maintaining compliance with Maryland’s Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rule, A&S Compassion Care (ASCC)
    • Ensures that individuals are given choices regarding their community setting options.
    • Guarantee individuals’ rights of privacy, dignity, respect, and freedom from coercion and restraint.
    • Optimize autonomy and independence in making life choices
    • Facilitate choice in services and those who provide services
